Update to Rental Agreement and Release

We’ve updated and revised two documents:

  1. Bicycle Rental Agreement

  2. Liability Waiver and Release

These documents are effective immediately for new members and on September 13, 2017 for existing members. If you rent a bicycle or use our other services after September 13, 2017, you are agreeing to do so under the new terms.

Summary of Changes

We changed the format of our Rental Agreement, Liability Waiver and Release by splitting it in two. Now, the the account, billing, riding rules and other provisions are contained in the “Rental Agreement,” and the liability waiver, release, indemnification, and voluntary assumption of risk provisions are contained in the “Release.”

In addition to this format change, we’ve made a few other smaller changes. Below are some highlights of the changes to the Rental Agreement, but please read the new Rental Agreement and Release in their entirety.

  • Sections 1-2: The Rental Agreement now applies to all subscription types, whether you are an annual member or a day-pass rider. Please refer to the website or app for specific prices and usage fees.

  • Section 3: We added some new instructions on how to replace lost keys--by using the online help center at help.citibikenyc.com.

  • Section 4: We clarified that you have to keep an up-to-date credit card on file in order to maintain your membership.

  • Section 5: Transporting bikes between NYC and Jersey City is still not allowed. We are implementing a restocking fee for breaking that rule.

  • Section 12: We clarified that any Citi Bike subscriptions you purchase after your initial account creation will be governed by the Release and the Rental Agreement.
